The 2023 Oscars were last night, bringing an end to this year’s awards season. If you missed it, Everything Everywhere All At Once took nearly every prize it was up for (I have yet to watch it), Ke Huy Quan won for “Best Supporting Actor” and gave an emotionally riveting speech (there wasn’t a dry eye in the house), and Jimmy Kimmel made far too many Slapgate jokes.
But, I’m not here to talk about the awards – I’m here to talk about the fashion! This year, the red carpet was actually a champagne carpet (it was beige, and incredibly ugly). So, here are the biggest fashion trends and the best and worst dressed from the 2023 Oscars.
2023 Oscars Fashion Trends
Bridal Gowns
By far the biggest trend of the night was bridal wear. So many celebs came looking like they were walking down the aisle – seriously, these could be wedding gowns!
Two of them stood out to me, though. Michelle Yeoh and Emily Blunt both looked chic and radiant.
I was also a big fan of Sophia Carson’s gown – she looked like a princess!
Michelle Williams on the other hand… Normally, I adore her sense of style, but she looked a bit dowdy in this one.
Color Blocking
The color blocking trend was big last night too – and this one surprised me! It’s not a trend we’ve seen at previous awards shows.
Cate Blanchett looked impeccable, as always. I’m so into this blue color on her! And Janelle Monae was another stand out. Her dress was somehow both edgy and traditional.
Black and Edgy
There are always a lot of black gowns on the red carpet, and this year was no exception. Plenty of stars chose edgy black dresses, though. Nicole Kidman rocked one of my favorite looks of the night.
And of course, Rihanna, who makes being pregnant look far sexier and cooler than anyone else.
Black and Vintage
As much as I love the edgy fashion choices, I really loved how many stars chose slinky, vintage looking black gowns. I absolutely loved Zuri Hall’s dress. The elbow-length gloves really give it some oomph.
But Vanessa Hudgens was my favorite here. She looks timeless and elegant in her black and white Chanel gown and calls to mind Julia Roberts and Audrey Hepburn.
Silver and Sparkly
Silver was a big trend last night. There were a few gold gowns here and there, but far more sparkly silver numbers.
All three of these women stood out to me, but Jessica Chastain is my favorite. She’s giving old Hollywood glamour and I love it!
Beige Shimmer
Beige colored gowns were also on-trend. I would’ve liked these more if the carpet had been red instead of “champagne”! But I am so into this mermaidcore gown Ana De Armas is rocking.
Pop of Color
After so many white, beige, and black gowns, I was so happy when I saw some color on the carpet! Angela Bassett looks especially radiant in this bold purple dress. And Kerry Condon was giving some serious Belle from Beauty and the Beast vibes!
Big and Poofy
There were quite a few big, poofy gowns. I love a star who’s not afraid to take a risk, but unfortunately, these kind of missed the mark for me.
Mens Fashion
So many men wore something bold last night, which is always fun to see! I’m especially into the pale pink jacket that The Rock is wearing. He makes pink look so manly!
2023 Oscars Best Dressed
It was hard to pick a single best dressed this year, but these three stood out.
Halle Bailey
Halle Bailey looks like a sea goddess in this light blue, tulle gown. It’s both sweet and sexy and I’m so into the sheer corset top!
Hong Chau
This pale pink Prada gown isn’t for everyone, but I thought Hong looked so beautiful, and the feathery train was a unique touch.
Cara Delivigne
Oh man, Cara’s gown is giving me life! I honestly can’t decide between this one and Halle’s – I’m going to say it’s a tie!
2023 Oscars Worst Dressed
And of course, we have to talk about some of the worst dressed stars of the night.
Lesley Patterson
I mean, to be fair, she is on trend with her color-blocking gown. But unfortunately, it’s giving prom night vibes and doesn’t look red-carpet worthy.
Elizabeth Banks
This one was just… confusing. She’s drowning in the fabric and even tripped onstage – now that’s a bad dress!
Andrea Riseborough
First of all, she almost blends in entirely with the background. But even worse, the gown looks like a doily – it’s old fashioned, but not in a good way.

I really love Halle Bailey’s gown. And I agree, those worst dressed options are not good! Andre Risborough’s dress blends too much with her skin tone and quite modest.
She really looks like a princess in that dress – for sure my fav of the night
I definitely agree with your worst dressed choices. I also didn’t like Salma Hayek dress, it felt out of place for this years Oscar’s. I loved Florence Pugh poofy dress though. Of course, Rihanna could literally never fail.
I agree – I liked Salma’s Vanity Fair Oscars party dress, though, and think she should’ve switched the two around. The one she wore on the carpet wasn’t my favorite, but it would’ve fit in better at an after party.
We completely agree with your worst dressed picks. The bridal style is unexpected.
I didn’t hate it, but I wish the carpet was red like it usually is!
I totally enjoyed reading this post. My Oscar favourites are- Cara Delevingne, Ava DuVernay, and Janelle Monae.
I loved Cara’s look on the carpet! Her Vanity Fair dress was on point as well
