Here’s another fun fashion post for ya! This time, I’m looking at the best and worst dressed celebs at the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars party.
Lately I’ve been crazy busy, so I haven’t had as much time to work on the blog. (If you’re a subscriber, you’ve probably noticed that I haven’t sent a weekly wrap up email in almost three weeks!) But I still wanted to put something out, and these roundups are a good way to do that.
2023 Vanity Fair Fashion
If you missed the previous roundup, check out the best and worst dressed from the Oscars champagne carpet.
Top Trend – Nearly Naked Gowns
OK, so this was one of those trends that really took me off guard. There were so many nearly naked gowns at the Vanity Fair party. It’s definitely a bold look, and in some cases it’s a risk that pays off. Emily Ratajakowsky, for example, looks stunning in this sheer, silver dress.
Daisy Edgar-Jones almost looks amazing. But… well, to be blunt, she’s rocking a bit of camel-toe. I think if she’d worn different underwear, this could’ve worked.
Nearly Naked Trend: Exposed Bra
The exposed bra thing was another facet of the nearly naked dress trend. This one had way less success, though. The only one that’s kind of decent is Sabrina Carpenter’s. But honestly, I can imagine what the dress might’ve looked like if the top had matched the bottom and I think it would’ve been way classier and more flattering.
I’m in the minority here, but I’m not a fan of Hunter Schafer’s dress. It’s showing a little too much skin. I like the concept, though, and I wish the top was more of a crop top than a string. As for Olivia Wilde, the whole thing is a no for me.
Vanity Fair Fashion: Looks I Love
Onto some of the looks I love! Kendall Jenner looks so good in this gown. It’s chic and fashion-forward at the same time. Both Riley Keough and Sophia Vergara are rocking gold gowns and they both look amazing.
Soft and Sweet Gowns
Ugh, these three are some of my absolute favorites from the night! These gowns are all so classy and elegant, yet there’s something very sweet and girly about them, too. Minnie Driver, especially, looks amazing.
More Well-Done Fashion
I’m obsessed with Rita Ora’s gown. It’s structural and interesting, and I would’ve rather seen this type of bridalwear on the red carpet than the looks we got. And Shay Mitchell is an example of the sheer/nearly naked trend done right.
Black and Edgy
I’m torn on Kylie Jenner’s gown and honestly, I’m not sure if I like it or not. It’s OK. Hailey Bieber looks incredible, though, and so does Megan Thee Stallion.
Fashion Risks that paid off
I love it when celebs take fashion risks, and we saw way more fashion risks at the Vanity Fair party than at the actual Oscars. Kate Hudson looks so good here and I wish she would’ve worn this one on the red carpet instead of the ill-fitting gown she ended up choosing.
Cardi B. always looks incredible and I’m such a fan of Stephanie Hsu’s fun dress!
Fashion Risks that were too much
These looks were… well, they were a lot. I don’t necessarily hate them, but I they were a bit too much in my opinion. Still, I always appreciate when celebs go big and bold.
Best Dressed
Now for my top three best dressed stars at the Vanity Fair Oscars party!
Cara Delevingne looked stunning on the red-carpet and her after-party gown was equally gorgeous. Best dressed of the night, I think. Kerry Washington’s nude, softly draped dress is also incredible and I’m obsessed. I love Michelle Yeoh’s sparkly, slinky gown. Again, I think she looks better here and wish she would’ve worn this dress on the red-carpet.
Worst Dressed
And now the worst dressed. It pains me to say this, but Florence Pugh’s gown was… well, confusing. I was OK with her Oscars dress, but this one was a hard no for me. Chrissy Tiegen also wore something I didn’t love – she looked more like a showgirl than a Hollywood icon. And then Adowa Aboah… it was so close to being a great dress, but the flower stems look like pointy nipples and I just can’t get past it.

I personally love the nearly naked look. I wouldn’t wear it myself but I find it so artistic and a beautiful celebration of life in your own skin.
It’s definitely a bold look, and on some people it absolutely works. EmRata and Shay Mitchell for example.
I think the theme was Old Hollywood with a new twist. Which may be why so many had on nude or sheer looks. I like the picks you chosen.
I can see that, for sure!
